With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's likely return, Shreyas Iyer is expected to return to the Indian T20I side as well, since the selectors can pick more than 15 players for the bilateral series, as it might make room for players like Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who missed out during the Asia Cup.

India will be touring Australia for a long white-ball series, as it will include both ODIs and T20Is. The series will begin with the One-Day series to be played from the 19th of October; the three-match ODI series will be followed by a 5-match T20I series from the 29th of October to the 8th of November.

The series is expected to mark the return of senior cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the Indian team since the Champions Trophy.

Shreyas Iyer to make T20I return for India in the upcoming tour to Australia

The upcoming series is expected to mark the return of several players who were part of the Champions Trophy-winning squad. This means that, naturally, Shreyas Iyer, who was India's highest run-getter in that tournament, is likely to be part of the successful campaign.

However, the only question that remains is whether Shreyas Iyer will be considered to be back in the Indian T20I side by head coach Gautam Gambhir. Shreyas Iyer's snub from the Asia Cup was justified by the national selectors, claiming that despite his brilliance, he was not picked due to a lack of spots in the Indian side.

Since the selectors will now have more than 15 players to be picked for the bilateral series, this should make a place for Iyer. Moreover, Sanju Samson's not-so-ideal fit into the no. 5 batting position should impose a thought on Gautam Gambhir to have someone like Shreyas Iyer in the team.

Will Yashasvi Jaiswal be picked for the Australia tour?

Alongside Shreyas Iyer, another big name that has often been missed from the Indian T20I side despite his utter brilliance in the format is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal made his T20I debut back in August 2023 and was considered a star in the format.

However, ever since Abhishek Sharma's dream run in the IPL 2024, he was swapped in for Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Indian side. Though Abhishek has justified his selection over any other batter, Jasiwal has often been cited as a more impressive batter than the likes of Shubman Gill or Sanju Samson in the shortest format of the game.

After an Asia Cup snub, Yashasvi might be hopeful for a T20I comeback in the upcoming tour of Australia. The selectors would also have to decide on whether this is the right time to bring in T20I sensation Abhishek Sharma into the Indian ODI setup. He was picked for the India A side in the series against Australia A.

Shubman Gill is uncertain for the T20Is in the Australia tour

The Indian star, Shubman Gill, will be uncertain for the T20Is against Australia after not performing very well in the recently concluded Asia Cup. Other than his performance, his increasing workload might also be a reason for resting him during the Australia tour.

Shubman Gill is expected to continue in the ODI series from the 19th of October to the 25th of October. If Gill misses out on this occasion, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal or Sanju Samson might fill in his shoes at the top of the Indian T20I XI.
