After the end of the match, Gill, who is also India's vice-captain in ODIs, spoke about his role as the deputy of Rohit Sharma. Gill revealed how Rohit is asking him for input when the team is on the field and is preparing him for the captaincy role in the future.

Shubman Gill reveals how Rohit Sharma is preparing him for captaincy role
After the match, Shubman Gill was asked about his role as a vice-captain of India's ODI team. The 25-year-old batter revealed that the batting has remained the same even after being elevated into the role but Rohit Sharma keeps asking him for inputs on the field
"In batting not much has changed. But on the field, I want to know what the thinking is and what Rohit (Sharma) bhai thinks and give my input. He tells me if you want to tell me anything in the match, do not hesitate," Gill said.
When asked about his partnership with Shreyas Iyer, Gill hailed his batting partner for taking them off him with the aggressive knock. He claimed that the plan was to be positive even if India had lost their openers early.
"[Thoughts at 19 for 2] Trying to be positive. There was a little in it for fast bowlers. Idea was to not to go too much on the back foot, and play good cricketing shots. When a player [Shreyas Iyer] comes like that, the opposition also goes on the back foot. Good decision on his part also helped me," he added.
Shubman Gill reveals his batting plans
Shubman Gill further opened up his batting plans and revealed how he pace his innings. He spoke about the turn that the England spinners were getting and how he tackled it with terrific composure.
"The pull I hit through midwicket when I was batting on 70. [Sticky wicket?] I thought it was a bit double-paced. Spinners varied their pace well, when they bowled slow, it was turning. Had it in mind to look to the square of the wicket and not try to hit down the ground," Gill added.
Shubman Gill's knock contained 14 fours and he was positive throughout his knock. The right-hander made sure that India didn't go into a shell and kept scoring runs. It was a typical ODI knock from India's vice-captain who walked in at No. 3 in the absence of Virat Kohli in this match.
India thrash England to go 1-0 up
It was a great start for the Men in Blue as they thrashed the tourists by 4 wickets with more than 11 overs to spare. England batted first after winning the toss and were all out for 248 in 47.4 overs.
They started brilliantly but Indian bowlers pulled things back. Skipper Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell struck important half-centuries for the visitors. For India, Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each.
In reply, India lost their openers early with captain Rohit Sharma continuing. But Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer put together a great partnership of 94 runs in quick time to put India in command. Iyer was dismissed for a belligerent 59 off just 36 balls.
India sent Axar Patel up the order and he responded well with 52 off just 47 balls. The Men in Blue lost some quick wickets in the end but the experienced allrounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja took them home safely in the end.
