Shubman Gill has delivered an update on his finger injury that forced him to miss the first Test between India and Australia in Perth. While Team India registered a stunning victory to start their tour of Australia on a winning note, the right-handed batsman had to see all the action from the sidelines.

He missed the Test after injuring his thumb while taking a catch during the intra-squad practice game at the WACA earlier this month. According to reports, Shubman Gill suffered a hairline fracture and missed the first Test of the five-match series.

In his absence, Team India thrashed Australia by 295 runs to take the lead in the series. Batting first, India were bowled out for just 150 runs before bouncing back in style. Riding on captain Jasprit Bumrah's stunning 5-wicket haul, India bowled out Australia for only 104 runs.

In the second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli hit centuries to help India post 487/6 (declared). Chasing 533 runs, Australia could only manage 238 runs in their second innings.

Perth is the only venue where I haven't played: Shubman Gill

While Shubman Gill missed the first Test, he is fully fit for the second Test. On Friday (November 29), the India star hit the nets and looked comfortable while batting. After the net session, he also gave an update on his injury.

The 25-year-old said that he felt much better than he had expected while batting in the nets. Gill also expressed his delight over his recovery.

"I was just trying to get a feel, to be honest, see how the injury is reacting, if there is any kind of jardness or any kind of soreness with me playing, but it actually went much better than I expected and Kamlesh bhai expected, and I'm very happy with that," said Shubman Gill in a video posted by BCCI.

Gill also made it clear that he was very disappointed over not being able to play in Perth. The youngster is yet to play at the iconic venue and could not hide his disappointment over missing out on the opportunity to play the first Test. At the same time, he also said that he eventually became happy after seeing the Indian team's thumping victory.

"Any ball, when it hits the bat, especially the middle of the bat, the feeling that you (0:06) get, that's the feeling that I play for. When I got to know about my injury for the first couple of days, I was quite low, a bit disappointed. Perth is the only venue where I haven't played when we came the last time," said Gill.

"I was looking forward to playing there and it's such an iconic venue. But the way we played that game, and by the end of it, I was very happy with the way that we played and we won the game," he added.
