Young Indian batter Shubman Gill smashed a brilliant hundred during the fifth Test of the ongoing home series against England in Dharmsala. Shubman Gill achieved his fourth century for the national team in Test cricket during his brief international career.

The Ben Stokes-led team was bowled out for 218 runs on the opening day of the match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday, March 7. Kuldeep Yadav ran through England’s top order and picked up five wickets for 72 runs in his 15 overs.

Shubman Gill Smashes His Fourth Test Century

Shubman Gill came to the crease when India’s score was 104 runs on the opening day of the last match. The young batter played an aggressive role in his partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma. India surpassed England’s first-innings total with the loss of just one wicket.

The 24-year-old batter reached the milestone with a slog-sweep off Shoaib Bashir‘s bowling. The right-handed batter has scored his fourth Test century, marking his second in the series against England. He received cheers from the stands, including those from his father.

Gill scored an unbeaten 101 runs off 142 balls with the help of 10 fours and five sixes. He has scored 443 runs in nine innings at an average of 63.28, including two centuries and two fifties. He is currently the second-leading run-getter in the series behind Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The Rohit Sharma-led team ended the first session on the second day with a total of 264 runs. The home team holds a significant lead of 46 runs. Rohit Sharma also scored a century, remaining unbeaten with 102 runs off 160 balls, including 13 fours and three sixes.

After facing scrutiny following twin failures in the first Test, Gill rebounded impressively in the second Test in Vizag. He scored a fine century to silence critics and bolster India’s victory. Additionally, he delivered a match-winning half-century knock in the fourth Test.
