In a significant development, Team India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has recovered completely from his neck injury ahead of the third and final ODI against South Africa. As per reports, the right-handed batter is fully fit and will be available for the upcoming five-match T20 series against South Africa.

Gill suffered a neck injury while attempting a sweep shot in the first Test in Kolkata, which forced him to miss the rest of the match. The injury also ruled him out of the second Test and the three-match ODI series. The batter remained under the care of the BCCI’s medical staff at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Shubman Gill Declared Fit for All Formats Ahead of Third ODI

Shubman Gill returned to India’s T20 squad under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. However, his inclusion was subject to fitness, as the BCCI stated that he would only be cleared to play after passing the required fitness tests at the Centre of Excellence.

India Eye T20I Series vs South Africa as Preparation for 2026 T20 World Cup

India will use the upcoming T20I series against South Africa as an important part of their preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup at home. The team management is expected to focus on settling the core squad rather than trying too many new options.

The squad for the five T20Is was announced recently, with Shubman Gill named as Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy. As per the schedule, the first T20I of the series will take place at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on December 9.

After suffering a 2-0 Test series defeat in South Africa, including a heavy 408-run loss in the second match, India will now look to bounce back and regain momentum through the upcoming T20Is.
