India star Smriti Mandhana has reclaimed the top spot in the latest ICC Rankings for batters in women's ODIs, announced by the governing body of the game on Tuesday (June 17).

The southpaw Smriti Mandhana has moved to the top of the ICC Rankings for the first time since 2019. She has replaced South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt. The South Africa star dropped from the top spot after losing 19 rating points in the latest ICC Rankings.

Smriti Mandhana Reclaims Top Spot In ICC Rankings After Six Years

Smriti Mandhana was in the top ten for quite some time now, but was not able to reclaim the top spot. It took her six long years to become the world number one ODI batter once again. The India batting mainstay has been in terrific form with the bat in recent times. She recently scored a century against Sri Lanka during the final of the tri-series, also featuring South Africa.

She eventually finished the series as the second-highest run-scorer behind Annerie Dercksen. In 5 games, Mandhana scored 264 runs at an average of more than 50.

Laura Wolvaardt loses top spot in ICC Rankings

In the same series, Wolvaardt failed to make a big impact with the bat. In three games, the South Africa batter registered scores of 43, 10, and 33. Recently, she scored 27 and 28 against the West Indies. After failing to register a single fifty in her last five ODI appearances, Wolvaardt has lost the top spot in the ICC Rankings.

England's Natalie Sciver-Brunt is at the second spot while Wolvaardt is at the third spot. England's Amy Jones and Australia's Ellyse Perry complete the top five in the ICC Rankings for batters in women's ODIs. The other players to make good gains in the rankings are South Africa's Tazmin Brits (up five spots to 27th) and Sune Luus (up seven places to 42nd).

West Indies duo Shemaine Campbelle (up seven rungs to 62nd) and Qiana Joseph (up 12 spots to equal 67th) have moved up in the ICC Rankings too.

Among the bowlers, England's Sophie Ecclestone is at the top followed by the Australian pair Ash Gardner and Megan Schutt. India's Deepti Sharma and Australia's Kim Garth complete the top five.
