BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on Thursday, October 27, made a landmark announcement that the board would pay equal match salaries to contracted players, both men and women.
Earlier, there was a big difference in the pay gap. Male cricketers are paid more per game than females, and the board wishes to eliminate gender discrimination.

He wrote on Twitter, “I’m pleased to announce @BCCI ’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCIWomen cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Cricket.”
“The @BCCIWomen cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support,” he added.
Sourav Ganguly lauded BCCI’s decision to implement pay parity between men’s and women’s teams. He congratulated BCCI’s Secretary Jay Shah and the current President, Roger Binny, for this “wonderful gesture”.
The 50-year-old stated that the BCCI has made significant efforts to improve the performance of female cricketers in India. The former BCCI president expressed his views on the increase in wages of women contractors contracted in India.

A Women’s IPL with six teams has been announced for next year. The dates of the tournament are yet to be announced, but it is scheduled to take place just before the men’s IPL.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed happiness over this development. She stated that this is a historic moment for women’s cricket in India and congratulated the BCCI for the good news.
