"Something Is Wrong" - Deandra Dottin Reacts To Shock Retirement Of 4 West Indies Cricketers
West Indies Cricket received a shocker as four national Women’s team players announced their retirements from international cricket without citing any reasons. On Thursday, four players that are Anisa Mohammed, Shakera Selman, Kycia Knight, and Kyshona Knight, announced their retirements from international cricket. All four were a part of the T20 World Cup-winning team in 2016 which was held in India.
Anisa Mohammed retires as the leading wicket-taker for West Indies Women in both the white-ball formats after playing 20 years of cricket for the West Indies. Shakera Selman, who made her debut in 2008, went on to play 100 ODIs and 96 T20Is. Both of them have also served as vice-captains of the West Indies Women’s team over the years and were regular members of the team.
The Knight twins (Kycia and Kyshona) also emerged as important members of the West Indies limited-overs teams over the years. They last represented the side during a T20I against England in 2022.
Deandra Dottin, who retired in 2022 after a 14-year-long career, has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to post two cryptic messages that seemingly give an insight into what is happening in West Indies Cricket. Deandra Dottin surprised everyone including captain Hayley Matthews by announcing her retirement from international cricket midway through the 2022 Commonwealth Games where she was playing for Barbados.
Dottin cited the team environment for her decision: “There have been many obstacles during my cricket career that I have had to overcome, however, the current climate and team environment has been non-conducive to my ability to thrive and reignite my passion,” Dottin wrote in her announcement. “With much sadness but without regret, I realise that I am no longer able to adhere to team culture and team environment as it has undermined my ability to perform excellently.”

“A lot of you talk things about me when I retired on how I did because I wanted captaincy and I didn’t want to play under this and that & what’s not well it is clear now.Things always have there way of showing .DoYouThinkTheyDidThatDueToTheSameReason?#LetGo&LetGod #GodIsInControl,” he added.

When Dottin announced her retirement, there were reports that she did that as she was reluctant to play under Hayley Matthews who is currently the best all-rounder in Women’s cricket. Deandra Dottin never got the opportunity to lead the West Indies Women’s cricket team. She was one of the greatest players for West Indies during her playing days. She has amassed 3727 runs in 135 innings in Women’s ODIs, smashing 22 half-centuries and three centuries.
West Indies have seen some ups and downs since the 2016 T20 World Cup. They had a huge slump in the 2017 ODI World Cup and 2020 T20 World Cup where they could manage to win only two matches in the former and just one game in the latter event. However, they had a terrific 2018 T20 World Cup and 2022 Women’s World Cup where they reached the semi-finals in both events.
