The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has reportedly shown displeasure on the sacking of WV Raman as the head coach of the India women’s team. Last week, the CAC decided not to continue with Raman and appointed Ramesh Powar as the head coach once again.

Under WV Raman, India women reached the finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia and played the host team in front of 80,000 people at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The report also mentioned that though many senior players of the team complained about Raman, the BCCI President felt that the former India opener should have been persisted with. Those involved in women’s cricket say Ganguly should respect the decision of the CAC (comprising Madan Lal, RP Singh, and Sulakshana Naik) and its functional autonomy.

Team India played 5 ODI series and as many T20I series from December 2018 to March 2020 under the guidance of WV Raman and the ODI team under the captaincy of Mithali Raj won four out of five series. They only lost one ODI series that to South African women at home recently in 2021.

Powar has been officially appointed as the coach of the Indian women’s team and in his comeback assignment, he will fly to the UK for the full-fledged series against the England team. Following the UK tour, Team India is scheduled to tour Australia for another full-fledged series.

Raman, on the other hand, has received an offer to work with the Hyderabad Cricket Association from Mohammed Azharuddin, the president of the state board. Raman, who played 11 Tests and 27 ODIs for India from 1988-1997, has previously worked with Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings in the IPL and the Tamil Nadu and Bengal state teams.
