Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Saturday, August 23, announced the men’s squads for the upcoming white-ball series against England, starting next month. Temba Bavuma will lead the national cricket team in the ODI format, while Aiden Markram will captain in the shorter format of the game during the away series.

England will host South Africa for a six-match white-ball series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, scheduled to take place from September 2 to 14. Harry Brook, who was named England’s captain earlier this year, will continue to lead the national cricket team in both formats for the upcoming series.

Keshav Maharaj returns to the T20I squad after missing the last two selections. Lizaad Williams and Marco Jansen also make a comeback following long injury layoffs, with Jansen recovering from thumb surgery after the WTC final. David Miller and Donovan Ferreira will join the squad after completing commitments in The Hundred.

Veterans Rassie van der Dussen, George Linde, and Nqaba Peter are not included in the T20 squad, while offspinner Prenelan Subrayen has been left out due to a pending action review.

The ODI squad is largely the same as the team that won in Australia. Kwena Maphaka remains as cover for the injured Kagiso Rabada, whose availability for the T20Is will be assessed in England.

We Were Experimenting With the Spin-Bowling All-rounders - Shukri Conrad

South Africa coach Shukri Conrad said that Keshav Maharaj strengthens their spin options. He added that Kagiso Rabada will be reassessed in England.

"We were experimenting with the spin-bowling allrounders in our most recent T20I series, and Keshav was always part of our broader plans," Conrad said in a statement. "His return to the squad strengthens our spin options. Beyond his obvious skill with the ball, he brings calmness and leadership to the group."

"We are hopeful that he (Rabada) will be available for part of the ODI series," Conrad said. "But we are prioritising T20I cricket and will take a conservative approach. We won't rush him back."
