A day before the WTC Final, the South Africa National Cricket Team announced their playing XI with Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, and Wiaan Mulder batting in the top three and skipper Bavuma taking the No.4 spot, followed by Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, and Kyle Verreynne at the No.5, No.6, and No.7 spots.
Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi were named as the frontline pacers, with all-rounders Marco Jansen and Mulder providing them with support in the pace-bowling, and Keshav Maharaj was the sole spinner. There was no place for Dane Paterson and Corbin Bosch in the playing XI.
Meanwhile, the conditions on the offer for the opening day were cloudy with a breeze blowing, and it looked like the Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma had doubts on his mind regarding the team selection.
When Ravi Shastri asked Temba Bavuma about the team combination, he replied by saying that they announced it earlier, and it was too late for them to make any changes to their playing XI. Temba Bavuma said:
"Will have a bowl first looking at the overhead conditions. Looks like a good pitch. Too late to change the team, we have selected the best combination.
"All 15 of us are confident. We all have had some allegiance to Lord's, the emotion will hit us when the anthems stat playing. It is a massive final, it should be a spectacle out here.
Happy to bat first - Pat Cummins
The Aussie skipper Pat Cummins said that they were 'happy' to bat first after losing the toss as they have prepared very well for the game. He stated:
"Happy to bat first. Looks like a good wicket with a few clouds. Prep wise it has been unreal, 15 guys working very hard for that title. (On the hectic schedule) You get used to it the more you are playing, we have had about 10 days prep and we are ready. Doesn't feel like any extra pressure. We've been here before and we've won it. This week is all about enjoying the moment."
