South Africa is all set to tackle Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series. AFG vs SA 1st ODI takes place at Sharjah Cricket Stadium and all three games will be played at the same venue. Temba Bavuma leads Proteas in the series.

The South Africa tour of Afghanistan 2024 comprises only three ODI games and this is the first bilateral ODI series between both sides. The visitors have a 100 percent win record against the hosts; winning both previous clashes during ODI World Cups.

Proteas are short of some of their key bowlers in the ODI series. However, they have inducted some emerging youngsters in their absence. Below we glance at their predicted playing 11 for the first game against the Afghan side.

Tony de Zorzi

Tony de Zorzi would be the opener for South Africa in the first game. The left-handed batsman has featured in 5 ODIs and hit 276 runs at 69+ average with 1 ton.

Reeza Hendricks

Reeza Hendricks would be the other opener for South Africa in the opening clash against Afghanistan. He is quite an experienced batsman for the side with over 34 ODI games, where he has slammed 1 ton and 7 fifties.

Temba Bavuma (C)

Temba Bavuma is the captain of South Africa in the ODI series against Afghanistan and will lead the side in the first match. He will bat at one-down and aim for a clean sweep against the hosts.

Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram will bat in the middle-order and is a crucial member of the Proteas in the series. He can also lend a hand with the ball with his spin bowling.

Tristan Stubbs (WK)

Tristan Stubbs will take the role of wicketkeeper and take a spot in the middle-order. He has shown a wonderful form in recent series including ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.

Andile Phehlukwayo

Andile Phehlukwayo will be an all-rounder for the side. He played a key role in driving the team to victory against Afghanistan during the ODI World Cup last year.

Wiaan Mulder

South Africa can also add Wiaan Mulder to the playing 11 as he can contribute with both bat and ball. The right-handed batsman accounts for 82 runs and 12 wickets across 15 games.

Bjorn Fortuin

Bjorn Fortuin will be a crucial spinner for the side in the absence of names like Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi. He has played 5 ODI matches and accounts for 6 wickets.

Lungi Ngidi

Lungi Ngidi is the most experienced pacer for the team in the ODI series against Afghanistan. The right-arm pacer will lead the pace attack against the hosts.

Nandre Burger

Nandre Burger might be another pacer in the playing 11 in the first game. He has done a decent job after his debut for the team in international cricket. The left-arm pacer has played a handful of games across all three formats.

Lizaad Williams is another pacer who will be part of the opening game. The right-arm has 5 wickets in 4 ODI games so far for the Proteas.
