South Africa, on Monday (September 30), announced their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The series is scheduled to be played from October 21.

The Proteas have named three frontline spinners in the team as the conditions in Bangladesh will assist the spinners more. They have recalled Senuran Muthusamy with Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt being the other spin options. The squad has only one uncapped player - Matthew Breetzke.

There were doubts over the tour because of the political turmoil in Bangladesh in recent times. However, Cricket South Africa (CSA) gave the tour the green light on Monday after getting the clearance from its security assessment team. The team conducted "an in-loco inspection" of Dhaka and Chattogram recently.

"I want to firstly thank both boards, Cricket South Africa and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, for ensuring the series goes ahead," said Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad.

"Bangladesh is always a tough place to tour. They've become a formidable side at home and we have to be prepared for the challenge that awaits us. We have therefore chosen a squad for the conditions we are expecting to greet us when we get there," he added.

South Africa squad for Bangladesh tour:

Apart from three spinners, South Africa also have a number of fast-bowling options in their squad. Kagiso Rabada will be leading the pace spearhead and will have the likes of Nandre Burger, Dane Paterson, and allrounder Wiaan Mulder as his fast-bowling partners.

On the other hand, the likes of Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje were not named in the squad. Ngidi is currently participating in South Africa's tour of UAE where they are busy playing against Ireland. His absence could be a case of workload management.

Nortje is currently plying his trade in the Caribbean Premier League. Some other notable names such as Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee are not in the squad too as both of them are on a break. The tour will also mark the return of batting coach Ashwell Prince. The former Proteas batsman missed the tour of West Indies owing to personal reasons.

Before leaving for Bangladesh, Temba Bavuma and his teammates will attend a red-ball camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from 12 - 14 October. They will leave for Bangladesh on 15 October.

The Temba Bavuma-led side won the two-match Test series in West Indies 1-0 and will be looking to win the series against Bangladesh as well to enhance their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. They have played six Tests in the ongoing WTC cycle so far and have won two of them.
