Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) produced a magnificent effort in the qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The match between the two teams took place at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Friday (24th May).

Sunrisers Hyderabad were tremendous with the bat and ball as they thumped Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs to book their berth in the final. The Pat Cummins-led side were clinical in the field as well as they made run-scoring hard for the opposition.

Asked to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a decent outing with the bat. Although they lost Abhishek Sharma (12) in the first over, Travis Head (34) and Rahul Tripathi (37) kept the intensity high and scored runs quickly for the team.

After their partnership, Sunrisers Hyderabad came under pressure and lost wickets early. But it was Heinrich Klaasen (50), who struck a valiant half-century to get his team back in the game. His solid hand with the bat powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to a total of 175 for nine at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

With the ball, SRH came under pressure at the start till the time Yashasvi Jaiswal (42) was batting. But the way, skipper Pat Cummins marshaled his troops was fantastic. He made brilliant bowling changes and that paid off as the bowlers were all over the batters.

Shahbaz Ahmed chipped in with three wickets whereas Abhishek Sharma also picked two wickets as Rajasthan Royals batters looked clueless. They restricted the opposition to 139/7 and won the game by 36 runs to reach the final.

As Sunrisers Hyderabad qualified for the playoffs, the CEO of the team Kavya Maran erupted in joy and was seen celebrating the win. Skipper Pat Cummins on the field too was jubilant as he hugged his teammates.

Patty (Pat Cummins) used the spinners well - Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma, who played a crucial role in the win over Rajasthan Royals, credited his father for his bowling performance and also lauded skipper Pat Cummins for using the bowlers well. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:

“To be honest I didn't know it would be this match (where I would bowl all 4 overs), but I was ready. I have been working on my bowling. I have been batting well in the last 2 years but it was my bowling that I had to work on and I did it with my dad. It (the pitch) was quicker when we were batting and it started to turn in the second innings, Patty used the spinners well.

"It was the pressure I have put in all the (practice) sessions that he (Cummins) gave me bowling today. We won the SMAT with Punjab and the momentum came from that, I was ready and worked hard. The message was simple - they gave us the freedom to go and express ourselves. It was one of my dreams to play in the IPL final and it is coming true,” he concluded.
