Sri Lanka Court Bans Sachithra Senanayake From Travelling Overseas Following Match-Fixing Charges

Former Sri Lanka player Sachihtra Senanayake has been charged with fixing games in the Lankan Premier League (LPL) 2020. Following the charges he has been banned by local court to travel overseas.
Sachithra Senanayake allegedly enticed two players to fix games over the telephone during the 2020 edition of the LPL. He has been handed a three-year travel ban by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. The Controller General of Immigration and Emigration have also been addressed about the same.
As per the reports, Sachithra Senanayake has been accused of calling two players from Dubai in 2020 but he has denied all the allegations imposed on him, saying that it’s an attempt to destroy his reputation. Match-fixing notably is a criminal offence in Sri Lanka.
In Sachithra Senanayake’s case, the court order was obtained by the Attorney General’s Department. The court has been told that Attorney General’s Department has been instructed by the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry to frame criminal charges against the former Sri Lankan international.
If Sachithra Senanayake is found guilty in the match-fixing case, he can be fined 100 Million Sri Lanka Rupees or imprisonment for up to 10 years, or both.
Sachithra Senanayake’s stats and numbers
Sachithra Senanayake made his debut for Sri Lanka in 2012 and was a decent servant for his country. He played just one Test for the Island nation but was valiant for the team in both ODIs as well as the T20Is.
He represented Sri Lanka in 49 ODIs and picked 53 wickets in those games at an average and economy of 35.36 and 4.77 respectively. In the 24 T20Is, he picked 25 wickets an economy of around 7. Sachithra Senanayake was also part of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2014. He also played 8 games in IPL, picking 9 wickets, representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the league.
