Sri Lanka Playing 11 vs Bangladesh- 2nd ODI, Bangladesh Tour of Sri Lanka 2025:
Openers: Pathum Nisanka, Nishan Madushla
The island nation will open the innings with Pathun Nissanka and Dilshan Madhuska in the second ODI against Bangladesh, scheduled to be played on Saturday (July 5).
Nissanka, who was in magnificent form in the two-match Test series that preceded the ODIs, wasn't able to open his account in the first match of the series.
The right-hander will look to put on a better show in the upcoming game and get his team off to a solid start.
Nissanka will be partnered by Nishan Madhushka, who is new to international cricket and has played only five ODI matches till now.
Like Nissanka, Madushka failed to get a big score under his belt and will look to do so when he takes the field against Bangladesh during the second ODI.
The duo would be itching to get things right come the second game in order to lay a platform for the incoming batters, which wasn't the case in the first game.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Kusal Mendis (wk), Kamindu Mendis, Charith Asalanka (c), Janith Liyanage, Wanindu Hasaranga, Milan Rathnayake
The opening pair will be followed by an in-form middle order, which stabilized the innings in the first match after Sri Lanka got off to a shaky start, having lost three wickets early in the innings.
The pair of experienced Sri Lankan batsmen Kusal Mendis and captain Charith Asalanka tried to get the team back on track by adding 60 runs for the fourth wicket but weren't able to prolong the partnership.
Having said that, the good work done by Mendis and Asalanka was carried forward by the latter, who scored a fighting hundred and was well supported by Janith Liyanage, Milan Rathnayake, and Wanindu Hasaranga.
Lanka would wish for their middle and lower-order batters to keep up the good work in the second ODI as well.
Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Eshan Malinga, Asitha Fernando
Lanka is expected to go in with the same combination that they played in the last game. The Sri Lankan captain, Charith Asalanka, had a plethora of spin bowling options at his disposal.
The onus will once again be on Wanindu Hasarana, Kamindu Mendis, and Maheesh Theekshan, who picked up eight wickets between them in the first match.
The trio will be supported by captain Charith Asalanka, who can also chip in with a few overs if needed.
Asitha Fernando and Eshan Malinga will have to tighten up things from one end, as they were not able to do so in the previous match.
