Sri Lanka women's squad for Asia Cup 2024 announced

Sri Lanka Women's National Cricket Team have announced the squad for the Asia Cup 2024. The island nation will be captained by the veteran batter Chamari Athapaththu in the tournament and would be hoping to win the title, in what will be a home tournament for them.

The Asia Cup 2024 will be played in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, from 19 to 28 July. The Chamari Athapaththu-led side will be playing their first game of the tournament against Bangladesh Women's National Cricket Team on July 20th at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla.

Sri Lanka Women's National Cricket Team have named some key players in the squad. The likes of Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kaveesha Dilhari, Udeshika Prabodani, and Achini Kulasooriya are expected to play a vital role for the team in the tournament along with skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who has been in red hot form of late.

Sri Lanka are placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Thailand. They are yet to win the Asia Cup title but with the tournament slated to take place at home this time around, they would be keen to win and give their fans something to cheer about, having gone through a lean phase of late.

After the game against Bangladesh Women's National Cricket Team, Sri Lanka will be taking on Malaysia in their second game on July 22nd. After that, they will be taking on Thailand in their last league game on 24th July. If they manage to bag the top two spots in the group they will go to the next stage.

A total of 8 teams will be taking part in the Asia Cup 2024. The tournament will be an ideal preparation for all the teams ahead of the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka being in home conditions will be one of the top favourites to win the tournament under the leadership of Chamari Athapaththu.

With associate nation Thailand being in their group, Sri Lanka will be favorites to reach the Super 4 stage of the tournament. However, the next step won't be easy for them as the other group has India and Pakistan in it. Therefore, it promises to be an enthralling tournament.
