Australia National Cricket Team batter Steve Smith arguably is one of the finest batters to have played from this generation, perhaps the best Test batter. The right-hander has been the backbone of the batting lineup for his team in ODIs and longest format of the game for more than a decade.

Steve Smith has been consistently scoring runs for Australia in the Tests and it's fair to say that he has already found himself in the list of greats. But with his batchmates, especially David Warner retiring, a lot of questions have emerged about his future in international cricket.

There have been a lot of speculations about Steve Smith's retirement. The veteran Australia batter too has hinted quite a few times about the same and there has been no clarity about it. With him being in his late 30s has also added salt to the topic about his future for the Australia National Cricket Team.

Steve Smith, however, quashed all the speculations. During an interaction, he was asked about his decision to open the batting in Test cricket and also his retirement plans. Replying to this he came up with joyful news for his fans across the world.

While talking about his decision to open in Test cricket, Steve Smith said that he felt he should take up the responsibility because it would've been unfair for Cameron Green to take up the role. He also mentioned that he isn't going away anytime soon. He explained in a video shared by Paray Yasir on X:

"I didn't feel like it was right for Cameron Green to open the batting, so I went up there. We will see, I don't know how long I will play but I'm not leaving anytime soon."

Steve Smith no doubt will go down as one of the best Test batters in the history of cricket. He already has the most Test centuries for Australia and is also among the top five run-getters for his side in the longest format of the game.
