Former Australian great Ian Chappell has slammed Australian batsman Steve Smith for the new pitch scuffing row that he has been involved in. Notably, Steve Smith has found himself ion another massive controversy after a visual clipping appeared of him clearing Rishabh Pant’s batting guard on the final day of the Sydney Test.
For his act, Smith has had to bear the brunt from a lot of cricketers, past and present from all across the globe. Smith has been a part of controversies throughout his Test career. Be it the Brain-Fade moment or the Sandpapergate, Steve Smith has time and again stained the Australian jersey. While he has received a lot of criticism from all ends, the Australian cricket fraternity and Smith himself, have stated that he wasn’t trying to do what is being portrayed.

Ian Chappell Weighs In On The Steve Smith Pitch Scuffing Row
Now, former Australian legend, Ian Chappell has also weighed in on the conversation and stated that Smith needs to be a lot more careful and watchful of his actions.
“Smith just gets in his own world, he probably didn’t even realise why he might be causing a problem. Whether he did it deliberately or not, you never know, but I think he just lives in his own world and half the time – particularly now that he’s not the captain – sometimes he’s just not aware that he might be doing something that either annoys or offends the opposition. I don’t think it was deliberate. I think he’s a bit of an absent-minded professor,” Ian Chappell said.

“I think Tim Paine’s said to him that it probably would be a good idea if he avoided doing it in future,” Ian Chappell added. Notably, Australian skipper Tim Paine had come out in defence of Smith and stated that Steve Smith wasn’t trying to cheat and he is habitual of such sort of antics. Australian coach Justin Langer has also defended the former Australian skipper.

Australia have all but declared their team for the final Test. Australian opener Will Pucovski has been ruled out of the final Test and Marcus Harris has replaced him the final eleven, who will open alongside David Warner for the Kangaroos.

The Indian Cricket Team can also see a couple of changes being made for the final Test. In the absence of Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha might both play in the final Test.
