Riyan Parag has given a fitting answer to his critics by reminding everyone of his immense potential with some stunning displays in the recently-concluded Deodhar Trophy.
In recent months, the youngster from Assam made it to the news for all the wrong reasons as he faced heavy criticism for his poor performance in IPL 2023 and the Emerging Teams Asia Cup. In 7 games in IPL 2023, Riyan Parag managed to score only 78 runs at an average of 13 and a top-score of 20.
It was followed by another disastrous outing in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023 where he managed to score only 26 runs in 5 matches. And every failure with the bat met with severe criticism from the critics. Time and again, Riyan Parag was trolled on social media for failing to do well with the bat.
Saba Karim on Riyan Parag:
Riyan Parag finally roared back to form in the recently-concluded Deodhar Trophy, the inter-zonal 50-over competition. Playing for East Zone, the right-handed batsman starred with the bat and finished the competition as the highest run-scorer. In 5 games, he smashed 354 runs at a strike-rate of almost 137 and an average of nearly 90.
He hit two centuries and missed out on another one in the final by just 5 runs. And as Riyan Parag impressed in the tournament, former India wicketkeeper and selector Saba Karim has said that he is ‘the youngster to watch out for’. Taking to Twitter, Saba Karim praised Riyan Parag’s power-generating ability and wrote:
“I am sticking my neck out on this!! Riyan Parag is the youngster to watch out for in white ball cricket!! Very few can match the power he generates. Well played young man”

Meanwhile, Parag could not guide East Zone to a win against South Zone in the final of the Deodhar Trophy. The youngster scored 95 off just 65 balls with the help of eight fours and five sixes but it was not enough as East Zone lost the game by 45 runs while chasing 329.
