Former Indian star Sunil Gavaskar has brutally attacked former international cricketers who have shown overwhelming concern over the Indian team selection for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

After the Asia Cup 2025 squad was announced, it also marked several former overseas cricketers associated with Indian cricket in the form of the IPL widely commenting on the snub of a few players, especially Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer.

Some of the players also raised questions on the selection of Harshit Rana, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh instead of the aforementioned players. Many of the big overseas names, like Ross Taylor and Brad Haddin, have voiced their criticism over the same.

"They should focus on their country’s cricket," Sunil Gavaskar fires back at overseas players

However, it seems the criticism by former overseas cricketers did not land well with former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar, who seems infuriated by the ex-foreign cricketers weighing in on Indian cricket with their unnecessary opinions.

"They (Overseas players) should focus on their country’s cricket and let us Indians worry about our cricket. Amazingly, when their country’s teams are selected, there’s hardly anything, if ever, heard from them about the selection. It’s almost as if the selection is perfect and they have no comments to make," Gavaskar said on overseas players' view on Indian cricket.

Why butt your nose into the selection of the Indian team? : Sunil Gavaskar

Before the 8-member continental championship begins on the 9th of September, he has stated that if no Indian cricketer or former cricketer ever shows any interest in the teams selected, then why do overseas cricketers poke their noses into the Indian team selection?

"So, why butt your nose into the selection of the Indian team? Have you ever heard Indian ex-cricketers talk about the selection of other countries’ teams? No, we mind our own business, and seriously couldn’t be bothered by who they choose or who they don’t select," he added.

"Foreigners adding fuel to the fire" - Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar continued his attack on the former overseas player, advising them to stay away from commenting on Indian cricket. Given the talent pool, especially in the T20 format, selecting a universally accepted squad has become an impossible task for selectors.

"What is baffling, though, is foreigners who have zero stake in Indian cricket, and much less knowledge about it, wading into the debate and adding fuel to the fire."

"However great they may be as players and however many times they may have been to India, the selection of the Indian team is strictly none of their business," said Gavaskar (via the Sportstar source).

The Indian Men's team dominated the white-ball formats over the past few years, as they won the previous T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy as well.
