Sunil Gavaskar tarnishes Ben Stokes' reputation after India decimates England in Dharamsala

Sunil Gavaskar has taken a sly dig at England, saying that they don’t have any excuse for their ‘regular whining and moaning’ after the series loss against India. England arrived in India without losing a single Test series under the captaincy of Ben Stokes and started their tour on a brilliant note.
They stunned their fancied hosts by 28 runs to go 1-0 up in the five-match series. However, their performance started deteriorating with time and they eventually lost the series 4-1.
In the fifth Test played in Dharamsala, India thrashed the tourists by an innings and 64 runs to conclude the series in style. While pitches in India have garnered attention for all the wrong reasons in recent years, the recently-concluded series turned out to be an exception as all the games were played on sporting pitches.

Sunil Gavaskar’s sly dig at England:
Even before the start of the series, Sunil Gavaskar had stated that the English media would “whine” and “cry” about the Indian pitches whenever the result did not go their team’s way. And while English media surprisingly decided against blaming the pitch or conditions for the team’s loss, Sunil Gavaskar could not stop himself from taking a dig at England.
The former India captain stated England were beaten fair and square and they do not have any reason for their usual whining and moaning.
“There is no excuse for regular whining and moaning, they (England) have beaten fair and square,” Sunil Gavaskar said while commentating.
Former India spinner Murali Kartik, who was there with Gavaskar in the commentary box, said that England’s one-dimensional approach was the big reason behind the series loss. Kartik stated that England players did not trust their defense and paid the price for it.
“You can’t run a marathon like a 100-metre. If you do, you’d be gasping for breath. Even in marathons, there are phases where you need to consolidate your energy. In a Test match, if you bat one way, you can rarely come out on top. They haven’t just trusted their defense,” Kartik said.
Players from both teams will now focus on the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League, scheduled to be played from March 22.
