Former Australia captain Mark Taylor has slammed Sunil Gavaskar and the former India cricketers who have criticized the third umpire's decision to rule Yashasvi Jaiswal out on the fifth day of the Melbourne Test.

Jaiswal was controversially given out by the third umpire despite nothing shown on Snicko. But the ball had changed its path after it passed the bat and it seemed out to the naked eye. Gavaskar was severe on the third umpire and blasted him for not using the technology properly.

The legendary India opener called the ball's change of path an "optical illusion" and claimed that the third umpire Sharfuddoula should have used the technology in a better way. He even called the third umpire not to use the technology if he has to take decisions this way.

Mark Taylor on Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal

While speaking on Nine's Today, Mark Taylor responded to Sunil Gavaskar's criticism and claimed that technology like Snicko might not deter the edge sometimes since it is not 100 percent.

"Things like Snicko, and all the technology, are not 100 per cent, and everyone knows that. Particularly Snicko when you've got a stump mic, which is in the base of the stumps, and you've got a batter who edges the ball some two metres away up above his head... you may or may not hear that through the stump microphone," Taylor explained.

In this case, it is possible that Yashasvi Jaiswal's nick might not have been detected by the Snicko since the ball was above his shoulders. The Snicko didn't show any disturbance which started all the confusion.

Mark Taylor slams Sunil Gavaskar and other Indian experts

Mark Taylor further denied to claim any controversy on this issue stating that Yashasvi Jaiswal had clearly edged the ball. He slammed Sunil Gavaskar and the other experts for trying to create controversy out of nowhere.

"To me, there is no controversy. You can see from that replay that he clearly edges the ball, and there is a clear deviation. There is no controversy here. The people who find controversy, are looking for controversy. Australia took 10 genuine wickets yesterday and thoroughly deserved the win," he said.

Along with Sunil Gavaskar, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also criticized the umpire's decision to rule Jaiswal out.

What was the controversy with Yashasvi Jaiswal's wicket?

During the 71st over of India's innings on Day 5, Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to pull away a short ball from Pat Cummins down the leg side but missed the ball. Carey took the catch cleanly behind the stumps and the Australian fielders let out a huge appeal.

The on-field umpire initially gave it not out. The third umpire checked with various angles and there was a clear deflection as the ball passed the bat. However, the Snicko didn't show anything on it.

But the third umpire gave it out after watching it from different camera angles. It sparked a controversy and even Jaiswal argued with the umpires regarding the decision before walking back to the pavilion.
