Former Indian middle-order batsman Suresh Raina has lavished praises on the Indian team, owing to their recent performances. The Indian team, before its players moving on to IPL, capped off a wonderful home season by beating England across formats and dominating them. Suresh Raina reckons that the men in blue have credible players who could keep their team on top for quite a long time.

The Indian team bounced back to clinch the four-match Test series against England after losing the first by 227 runs. Virat Kohli’s men sustained a crushing defeat in the opening T20I before winning the five-match rubber by 3-2. The home side also made an impressive comeback after England’s mammoth run-chase in the second ODI of 337; however, India withstood another mighty effort to win by seven runs.

Suresh Raina believes that it’s all about the team environment and how one respects the side. The 34-year old pointed out that wherever India plays, they give a tough competition to them. Raina also took into account the pitch debates during the recent Test series against England; however, he felt like India was a far better side, given how they played. Suresh Raina lauded that Virat Kohli’s side was utterly dominant and remembered the captain’s partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin in the second Test.

“It’s all about the environment. It’s all about the belief and how you respect the side. Whoever and wherever the team is playing now, be it New Zealand or Australia, we are giving a tough competition. Everyone is saying now (after the England Test series) that it was a turning track. But the way we were defending the total, the way we played the second Test match, it felt like were leading 5-0. We were so dominant. The Ashwin and Virat partnership in the second Test it showed the level of confidence,” Raina said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Suresh Raina identified that India did incredibly well against England in Chennai, where it’s challenging to deal with spin and James Anderson’s reverse swing. The former left-handed batsman hailed Virat Kohli for doing a magnificent job after succeeding MS Dhoni as captain as he has given ample chances to youngsters, making us believe that India has the team to reign supreme over the oppositions for quite a long time.

In Chennai, it’s very difficult to play spin and reverse swing. The way Jimmy Anderson was bowling. You just need to hang in there, need to have that belief that you can win a session. Virat has been doing a brilliant job after MS moved away from captaincy. He has given lot of chances to youngsters like Mayank Agarwal, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill. We have very good team to dominate world cricket for quite some time now,” he added.
