Suresh Raina's Team Releases Statement After Star Cricketer's Arrest In Mumbai

Former India batsman Suresh Raina was among a host of celebrities arrested for violating COVID-19 norms in Mumbai on Monday. The other eminent personalities who were arrested during the raid at a Mumbai club were singer Guru Randhawa and Sussane Khan. The raid was carried out by the Police at a nightclub near the Mumbai airport.
A total of 34 people including the club staff were arrested by the Mumbai police for not following the COVID norms put into place by the state government. Suresh Raina and others were later released on bail. And on Tuesday, Suresh Raina’s team released a statement about the incident. In the statement, they confirmed that Suresh Raina was in the city for a shoot and was not aware of the local timings & protocols.
The statement further said that Suresh Raina regrets the unfortunate incident and is committed to following the rules and regulations laid by the governing bodies in the future as well.On Monday, Maharashtra government had declared a night curfew in municipal corporation areas as a precautionary step amid growing concerns over a new coronavirus variant spreading in Britain apart from putting restrictions on flight movements.
“Suresh was in Mumbai for a shoot which extended to late hours and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner post the same prior to him taking his flight back to Delhi. He was not aware of the local timings & protocols. Once pointed out, he immediately complied with the procedures laid out by the authorities and regrets the unfortunate and unintentional incident,” Suresh Raina’s team said in a statement.
“He always holds rules and laws laid down by governing bodies with the highest regard and will continue to do so in the future as well,” they added.
Meanwhile, Suresh Raina is expected to be seen in action soon when the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy gets underway next month. He has not played a competitive game since last year’s IPL. Earlier this year, he had pulled out of IPL citing personal reasons despite going to the UAE for the tournament.
