The fifth and final T20I match of the series between the Suryakumar Yadav-led India National Cricket Team and the Mitchell Marsh-led Australia National Cricket Team was held on Saturday, November 8.
The match at the Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba in Brisbane, was washed out due to persistent rain, and India won the series 2-1 against Australia.
Was a good series with bat, ball and in the field as well - Suryakumar Yadav
The T20I series opener between India and Australia was washed out due to rain in Canberra, and the hosts took a 1-0 lead with a comfortable 4-wicket win in the second match in Melbourne.
Then, India started their comeback journey and won the third match in Hobart by 5 wickets and the fourth match in Carrara by 48 runs. With the fifth match being washed out, India managed to clinch yet another T20I series win.
Speaking to Adam Gilchrist after the match, Suryakumar Yadav said that India had a great time in the series across all three departments. He said:
"Wanted the game to be completed at Canberra but that's not in our control. The way everyone chipped in and the way we came back from 0-1 down, credit to all the boys. Was a good series with bat, ball and in the field as well."
Bumrah-Arshdeep is a lethal combination - Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar further said that Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh form a deadly pace-bowling duo while Varun Chakravarthy, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel are exceptional spin-bowling options. He said:
"Both fast bowlers and spinners know their job very well. Bumrah-Arshdeep is a lethal combination. And then Axar, Varun coming in doing what they do best. And Washi coming in handy in the last game. They've played a lot of T20 cricket now, they bring a lot to the table and are backing themselves.
"Good headache to have - lots of players have been doing really well. Playing three strong teams - Australia, SA and NZ - going to be a great buildup for the World Cup.
Suryakumar excited to lead India in T20 World Cup 2026
India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has been going through a lengthy lean patch, and many have called for his sacking. However, during the same interaction when Adam Gilchrist asked Suryakumar about leading India in a home T20 World Cup, he expressed his excitement over it and seemingly confirmed that he would be leading, with his sacking not on cards despite Shubman Gill being seen as an all-format skipper. Suryakumar Yadav elaborated:
"I saw recently what happened with the women's team winning the World Cup in India, having an unbelievable support (from the crowd). When you're playing at home, of course there's a lot of pressure. But at the same time a lot of excitement and responsibility.
"When you're playing in your backyard, there will be a lot of support from everyone wherever we play in India. Going to be a good challenge, exciting tournament, but it's still far away. Two important series to go. Need to see a lot of things during that. I'm sure it will be an exciting World Cup ahead."
