Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock against South Africa in the 2nd T20I match. The No.1 T20I batter also became the first ever Indian skipper to get to a T20I half-century against the Proteas in South Africa. In the process, Suryakumar went past Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record for the highest individual score made by an Indian captain in a T20I match in South Africa.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 56 runs off 36 deliveries and his knock helped India to reach a respectable total of 180/7 on a rain-affected Gqeberha. Yadav came into bat after India lost both the openers for a duck and played a counter-attacking innings to take his team out of trouble. Suryakumar found support from the middle order as Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh kept the runs flowing despite the falling of wickets at the other end at regular intervals.

Suryakumar Yadav’s innings included some 360-degree batting displays where he hit five boundaries and three maximums to reach 56 runs. He was duly supported by Rinku Singh who somewhat overshadowed Yadav’s innings by getting his first-ever international half-century scoring 68 off 39 balls. However, Suryakumar Yadav was praised by Sunil Gavaskar and Dale Steyn for not changing his approach as a batter after taking over the captain’s responsibility.

Suryakumar Yadav Becomes First Indian Captain To Score A T20I Fifty In South Africa

Suryakumar Yadav recorded his 17th half-century in T20Is. It was his first on South African soil and the first by any Indian captain in South Africa. The difficult batting conditions with a lot of grass covering on the pitches and overcast conditions make batting very difficult in South Africa but Suryakumar Yadav still managed to score a brilliant half-century in the second T20I against the Proteas.

However, India lost the match after South Africa chased the revised target of 152 in 13.5 overs with seven balls and five wickets to spare. The Men In Blue will now move to Johannesburg where the third T20I is scheduled to be played and they will be looking to equalling the series by 1-1. The first T20I was washed out in Durban and the second was won by South Africa so now India will need to bounce back in the series and level it.
