The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been exciting and breathtaking. It has already entered its third matchweek. Last night, Rajasthan Royals (RR) hosted Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. The Royals continued to showcase their brilliant form in the IPL as they beat MI by 27 runs in a rain curtailed 11 overs game.
The match started nearly two and a half hours later than the scheduled time due to rain in the eastern part of India. Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first, though the pitch was under cover, but RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had other plans from the very start of the match.
Vaibhav and Jaiswal were on song against MI
Jaiswal started the first over, smacking Deepak Chahar for 22 runs, and Vaibhav took over Jasprit Bumrah for a first-ball six and produced a 14-run over. The two flamboyant openers stitched a partnership of 80 runs in four overs. RR scored 150/3 in their 11 overs. Coming out to chase Mumbai Indians were never in the game as they kept losing wickets.
Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford scored 25 runs each and were the joint highest run scorers for the five-time champions on the night. They finished off with the score of 123/9 in their 11 overs. It is the second consecutive loss for Hardik Pandya's side after the first match win over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
We’ve played enough cricket- Mahela Jayawardene
After the match, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya and vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav looked shattered inside the dressing room. In a video shared on X, Mumbai's head coach Mahela Jayawardene said, “We’ve played enough cricket to understand what happened today. As a franchise, as a team, as players — that’s not who we are. The margins are small. Those 24 runs could have come from anywhere four good balls or four big hits. That was the difference.”

“But this is the time when we need to stick together, have honest conversations, and look after each other.” Later, Kieron Pollard said, inside the dressing room, “Heads up, stay positive. Cricket games are never won easily. Let’s stay together, stay strong, and remain united.”
Hardik Pandya was awestruck by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Hardik Pandya at the post-match presentation said that his bowlers were not up to the task and also praised the way Vaibhav Sooryavanshi batted in the innings, and believed that he is one of the future superstars for India and wished him luck. As Pandya was awestruck by the way a 15-year-old cricketer has so much fearless attitude inside him.
Pandya said, "(On Sooryavanshi) Quite fascinating to see a 17- or 16-year-old boy (15-year-old) play that way. Amazing to see the way he bats, the fearlessness he has. Wish him good luck for the future. (On their next game) Just learn from the mistakes. Morning will come tomorrow, sun will rise, prepare well for the next game.”
MI will be up against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who are also in excellent form, winning two out of their two games in the tournament so far. The match is scheduled on Sunday, April 12, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
