India's middle order batter Suryakumar Yadav has lost his top spot in the ICC T20I batting rankings to Australia's star opening batter Travis Head. Suryakumar has held the position since December 2023. He had held this position on earlier occasions as well.

The dynamic India batter is a mainstay in India's T20 line-up. His audacious shots combined with some fine strokeplay make him one of the most dangerous batters in the T20 format. In the T20 World Cup 2024, Suryakumar scored 149 runs in six matches at an average of 29.80 and a strike rate of 139.25.

Travis Head dethrones Suryakumar Yadav in the latest ICC Rankings

Travis Head is the new No. 1 batter in the ICC T20I batting rankings. Head has been in superb form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 where he is the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament so far.

He moved up four places in the rankings from No. 5 to the top spot. Suryakumar Yadav, Phil Salt, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan drop down one place each to make up the top five.

Travis Head stars in T20 World Cup 2024

Head scored 255 runs in seven matches at an average of 42.50 and a strike rate of 158.38 in the T20 World Cup 2024 and is just behind Afghanistan wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the list.

Since Australia have been eliminated, Head won't be adding any more runs to his tally. But he had a fantastic tournament individually. Even in Australia's all-important Super 8 match against India recently, he threatened to take the game away from the Men in Blue.

But Head found little support from the other batters as Australia fell 24 runs short of the target. The left-hander, however, impressed with 76 off 43 balls, with 9 fours and 4 sixes. His innings contained some extraordinary shots and he kept Australia in the game till he was batting.

But he was removed by Jasprit Bumrah off a brilliant slower ball in the 17th over of the match to end Australia's hopes.

Travis Head has had a brilliant past year as a cricketer. He played crucial roles in Australia's triumphs in World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup last year. He scored breathtaking hundreds in the finals of both these tournaments. India were on the receiving end on both the occasions.
