Suryakumar Yadav and India are now proud winners of the T20 World Cup 2024 which was played exactly a month ago on June 29, 2024, in Barbados. In a topsy-turvy final, India held their nerves in the crunch moments and so did SKY while taking that catch of David Miller.

South Africa needed 16 runs to win off the final over chasing 177 to win. With David Miler on strike at the start of the 20th over, South Africa was in the game. Hardik Pandya bowled a full-toss as Miller could not connect it properly and was caught by SKY at the long-on boundary.

The commentators and even the fans on the ground thought that it was going for six. However, Surya pulled out a brilliant effort at the long-on boundary, balanced himself, and judged the catch to perfection. There were so many theories that were made to prove that it was a false catch, however, it was the decision of the umpire that mattered in the end.

One month on after winning the T20 World Cup final, Suryakumar Yadav looked back to his brilliant catch in the T20 World Cup final.

This Will Stay With Me Forever: Suryakumar Yadav On his World Cup Final Catch

"This will stay with me forever because I have done those things in my practice sessions a lot. But, I didn't think that it would come at that moment, the World Cup final and that situation. I am grateful for that to be doing something special on a special occasion but as you said that will remain with me forever, it won't be a one-month challenge or a one-year challenge, I think it will be for a lifetime" said SKY in a video posted by the BCCI.

The final saw Virat Kohli step up his game by a few notches as well. He scored just 75 runs in the first seven games and the final he scored an unbeaten 76 in the final as he helped India reach 176/7. South Africa had to put on a record chase to win the final.

They started well with Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31) going great guns. Heinrich Klaasen (52 off 27) threatened to take the game away from India with his breezy half-century. His dismissal by Hardik Pandya in the 17th over proved to be a big turning point in the game.

At one point South Africa needed 25 off the last three overs and then the equation came down to 16 in the final over. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh bowled two crucial overs leaving Hardik enough to defend.

He did a good job with the ball as he dismissed Miller in the very first ball of the 20th over followed by Kagiso Rabada's wicket in the penultimate ball of the final.

This was the first time South Africa made it to the final of any ICC event. They and India both maintained an unbeaten run in the lead-up up to the final and the Proteas unfortunately came second in the final as they choked once again.

Rohit Sharma finally won an ICC title as captain and brought an end to India's ICC title drought. It was redemption for Hardik Pandya as well who had to go through a lot in the past two-three months heading into the World Cup.
