Suryakumar Yadav, Sam Curran Among Nominees For ICC Men's T20I Cricketer Of The Year 2022

On Thursday, December 29, the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the list of players nominated for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2022 and Suryakumar Yadav is among the players from three different continents shortlisted for the award.

The 32-year-old India National Cricket Team middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav had an absolutely stunning run in T20Is in 2022. He batted exceptionally well throughout the year and became the top-ranked batter in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently at the No.1 spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, smashed 1164 runs in 31 T20I matches in 2022 at an amazing average of 46.56 and a spectacular strike rate of 187.43. He became just the second batter to score more than 1000 runs in a year in T20Is and finished the year as the highest run-getter.

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, Suryakumar finished as the third-highest run-getter, with 239 runs at an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 189.68.

Overall, he registered 2 centuries and 9 half-centuries in the shortest format of the game in 2022. Also, he smashed 68 T20I sixes in the calendar year in T20Is, which is the highest anyone has recorded in the format in a year by a fair distance.

The young England National Cricket Team all-rounder Sam Curran performed brilliantly with the ball in T20Is in 2022 and impressed everyone, especially with his death bowling skills. Overall, he bagged 25 wickets in 19 T20Is in 2022 and scored 67 runs.

He won the Player of the Tournament and the Player of the Match award in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Throughout the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, Curran delivered impactful performances with his medium-pace bowling and finished with 13 wickets in his bag.

The 24-year-old also became the costliest player in the history of the IPL as he was bought by the Punjab Kings for INR 18.50 crore at the IPL 2023 mini-auction.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team batting all-rounder Sikandar Raza had a memorable 2022 as he performed brilliantly throughout the year and also got an IPL deal. Overall, he scored 735 runs at a strike rate of 150.92 and bagged 25 wickets in 24 T20I matches.

Pakistan National Cricket Team star wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan once again piled up huge runs in T20Is in 2022. He finished the year as the second-highest run-getter with 996 runs under his belt as well as nine catches and three stumpings in 25 matches. He also became the No.1 ranked player in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings.
