England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) managing director Rob Key talked about the future of Matthew Mott as white-ball head coach and Jos Buttler as captain of the team. He said that they will be looking to do what is best for the team looking forward.

England National Cricket Team faced a disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup as they lost to India in the semi-final. The defending champions failed to defend their title as they bagged a thrashing 68-run loss against Men in Blue and looked extremely torrid with bat and ball in the tournament.

England had a roller coaster ride in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. They started poorly and then out of a sudden were on top and after that again came under pressure. But managed to reach the semi-final quite comprehensively and it was expected they would reach the final.

But it wasn't the case as they lost badly against India. This was the second consecutive loss for England in the ICC tournament. They had a debacle in the ICC World Cup 2023 as well as they faced group stage exit and struggled throughout the entire tournament.

With England struggling to get going in the last two World Cups, the position of the head coach Matthew Mott has come under scanner. Apart from this skipper Jos Buttler too has been under scanner as there have been reports that their positions will be reviewed by Rob Key.

Rob Key while talking about the same claimed that he isn't going to rush any decision as they have moved on to the Test team currently. But he admitted that they will be looking for the best possible thing for the team. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

"In terms of the T20 World Cup, we've sort of moved on at this point into the Test team. I am not going to rush anything on that [decision on Buttler and Mott's futures], but like we always do, we'll start looking at what's the best way for that white-ball team to move forward."

"We'll let the dust settle on that and move forward from there" - Rob Key

Rob Key added that they will be reviewing England's campaign in the T20 World Cup in a couple of weeks. He revealed that some of the players are still in the Caribbean and once the dust settles they will be looking forward. He elaborated:

"And that will start probably in a couple of weeks. All these things, when I get around to it in the next few weeks, then I'll start working out, to be honest...The World T20 finished, we still had players out in the Caribbean. So we'll let the dust settle on that and move forward from there."

There were reports recently which stated that Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan will not be given opportunities now. The ECB feels that their time is up and there are high chances that Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood also won't be playing in the next T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in early 2026 as a team is looking to rebuild and bring some fresh faces.
