India's fielding coach T Dilip has known Rohit Sharma for years now. Dilip served as India's fielding coach during the tenure of Rahul Dravid as India's head coach. During this tenure, Rohit Sharma was India's captain.

After Dravid's departure, Dilip was retained for the role of fielding coach after his impressive first stint. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma is still India's captain in the Test and the ODI format as he has already retired from the T20Is.

But Dilip and Rohit were together before as well. During his tenure with Deccan Chargers previously, T Dilip served as the franchise's assistant fielding coach in the IPL. At that time, Rohit Sharma was still playing for Deccan Chargers and Dilip had a close eye on a young Rohit.

During a discussion at the RawTalks with VK podcast on YouTube, Dilip stated that he has known Rohit since his stint with the Deccan Chargers. Dilip also claimed that Rohit is one of the best human beings he has met in his life.

“I don’t have to talk about his batting because everyone knows he’s one of the best pullers of the ball. All that is there, but the angle that I’ve seen through my work… When I was with the Deccan Chargers, I was able to see Rohit Sharma from a distance," Dilip said.

"In the last three years, whatever time I’ve spent with him, there are very few good human beings like him that I’ve seen in life,” he added.

Dilip also lauded Rohit Sharma for building a great bond with all the members of the Indian team. “Another thing is the relationship he has with every member of the team. The relation, the bond he’s built by talking to each one,” he said.

"He is actually a very funny person" - T Dilip on Rohit Sharma

The 44-year-old also narrated an incident from India's recent series against Sri Lanka with offspinner Washington Sundar when Rohit Sharma showed his funny nature on the ground.

"He is actually a very funny person, a happy-going person on the field. You also must have seen, in the match the other day, when Washington skipped twice, the running… So he tries to create a very nice environment on the ground as a leader," Dilip noted.

“There are funny incidents around that but he’s a great human being and there’s no need to talk about how good his leadership is… There’s the World Cup and the IPL trophies before that. He’s one of the best,” he added.

Rohit Sharma will be in action in India's upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, beginning on September 19. After the Test series against Bangladesh, India will play a T20I series against the same team.

After Bangladesh, New Zealand will tour India for a three-match Test series. But India's stern Test will be the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 later this year. The Men in Blue will play a five-Test series in Australia against the home team.
