Former Indian left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra picked Varun Chakravarthy to be one of the positives from the loss to Pakistan in the opening game for India in the T20 World Cup 2021. India has never lost to Pakistan in a World Cup fixture before, and the Babar Azam-led Pakistan side had finally broken that record.

It was complete dominance from the men in green in all three departments, and India had no answers to the display from the spirited Pakistan side. In the end, Pakistan chased down 152 in just 17.5 overs, and they had 10 wickets in hand. The Indian bowling attack looked toothless, and they have things to ponder about.

Ashish Nehra Credits Varun Chakravarthy For His Valient Effort

Varun Chakravarthy played his first game India-Pakistan game, and he did not look nervous at all. Ashish Nehra picked the mystery bowler as the only positive in the bowling department from the defeat against Pakistan and was praised for starting the spell really well. Varun did concede two sixes in his last over, but Nehra was sure that he will have a big impact in the coming games.

“Yes, Pakistan won by 10 wickets, but I would pick one bowler, and this is the effect of the IPL, and that is Varun Chakravarthy. Playing his first game against Pakistan, in the World Cup, it’s not easy. But the way he started is praiseworthy. The few deliveries that he got hit for sixes were some great strokes by the batters. But the bowling that we saw from him in the IPL and against Sri Lanka, he is just taking that forward,” Ashish Nehra told Cricbuzz.

“The Rest Of The Bowlers Are Experienced Internationals” – Ashish Nehra

Ashish Nehra mentioned that the Varun CV wasn’t affected by the pressures of playing against Pakistan and reckoned that all the other Indian bowlers were experienced enough. He noted Varun CV as the X factor player for India if the dew factor is not considered.

“Sometimes you are playing against Pakistan, it is a World Cup match, so you can come under pressure and stray with your bowling, but that did not happen at all. The rest of the bowlers are experienced internationals. So I would say Varun Chakravarthy was a big plus for India, and going forward, when there isn’t too much dew, he can be India’s X-factor,” he added.
