The 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup started with a couple of upsets and a lot more to unpack throughout the event. The competitiveness amongst the teams is higher than ever before.
All the teams are privileged, with some top quality players who would be eager to showcase their talents and prove a point in the global event. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the five players who can bag the Player of the Tournament award.
1) David Warner (Australia)
No doubt David Warner will be a vital wheel of Australia’s car in their race to the title. He is a player who is equipped enough to win battles on his own. He was also the Player of the Tournament in the last edition of the T20 World Cup.
The left-handed batter scored 289 runs in just seven games at an average of 48.16 and a strike-rate of 146.70. Once again, all eyes will be upon him when he takes the bat in his hand. His recent form has also been in his favour.
2) Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan)
Shaheen Afridi’s return after serving a long injury is a big boost for the Pakistan team. He has been their best bowler across all formats in recent years. He has the incredible ability to exploit wickets with the new ball and bowl effectively towards the business end.
In warm-up games, the left-arm pacer marked his impact. If he gets a good start to the season, he can fire the Men in Green to the title and also win the individual award for himself.
3) Jos Buttler (England)
England skipper Jos Buttler is running riots with his bat in limited-overs cricket. He is blessed with pure timing and hitting abilities. Once he is on song, he can hit sixes with ease and dismantle any bowling line-up.
The 32-year-old won the Orange Cap in IPL 2022 with a mammoth 863 runs to his name. In the recently concluded T20I series against Australia, he fired two half-centuries in three games to help his side build rhyme ahead of the showpiece event.
4) Suryakumar Yadav (India)
Suryakumar Yadav has taken the world by storm with his unorthodox batting skills. He made his debut just a year ago and in such a short time, he is already one of the highest ranked batters in T20Is.
In just 32 games, Yadav already has 1045 runs under his hat, averaging 41.8 and striking at an astonishing rate of 177.4. His red-hot form makes him a strong contender for the Player of the Tournament award.
5) Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka)
Wanindu Hasaranga has made life tough for the batters with his mysterious spells. Undoubtedly, he will have a key role to play for Sri Lanka if they wish to qualify for the Super 12, especially after ace pacer Dushmantha Chameera is ruled out.
The right-arm leg spinner was the Player of the Tournament in the 2022 Asia Cup. He has dropped remarkable performances in the qualifying round and could lead the race for the individual prize.
