The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has made a big announcement in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed former West Indian cricketing legend and T20 World Cup winner, Dwayne Bravo, as the Bowling Consultant for the National Cricket Team.
Afghanistan displayed strong performances in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India last year. The team managed to beat teams like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in the ICC tournament. The Afghanistan team narrowly missed the semifinal qualification as they finished in sixth place in the 10-team points table.
The Afghanistan Cricket Team, led by Rashid Khan, aims to replicate their success in the Caribbean Islands and the United States of America (USA) this summer. Afghanistan is placed in Group C at the T20 World Cup 2024, alongside co-hosts in the West Indies, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda.
Dwayne Bravo Appointed As Bowling Consultant For Afghanistan Team
Dwayne Bravo will join the Afghan team during the preparation camp before the event in the Caribbean. Bravo, known for his entertaining style of cricket, has earned widespread admiration across the world. He won multiple titles, including the T20 World Cup, the Champions Trophy, the IPL, and the CPL.
The 40-year-old has an impressive record for the West Indies. The former right-arm medium-fast bowling all-rounder played 295 international matches, scoring 6423 runs and taking 363 wickets. Additionally, he boasts 100 first-class, 227 List A, and an astonishing 573 T20 appearances in his career.
Dwayne Bravo is the bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Chennai Super Kings secured the title in the IPL 2023 season. The former cricketer replaced Lakshmipathy Balaji as the bowling coach of the Super Kings after the 2022 edition of the tournament.
Afghanistan Set To Kick Off World Cup Campaign On June 3
Afghanistan is emerging as a formidable team and is poised to make a significant impact in the T20 World Cup 2024. Afghanistan is placed in Group C alongside New Zealand, the West Indies, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda. They will kick off their World Cup campaign on June 3 against Uganda in Guyana.
Rashid Khan will lead the team, which features experienced players such as Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, and Gulbadin Naib. Ibrahim Zadran, Najibullah Zadran, Karim Janat, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz provide team balance.
The spin department is strengthened by Noor Ahmad and Nangyal Kharoti, while the pace attack comprises Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Fareed Malik.
