Former Indian Men's chief selector MSK Prasad has lamented on the exclusion of the country's best finisher - Rinku Singh from India's ICC T20 World Cup 2024 main squad.

Rinku Singh is among the 3 other players who have been kept in the extras for India's T20 WC squad. Along with Rinku, the likes of Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed have also been excluded from the main 15-man line-up for the mega event in the USA and West Indies.

What did MSK Prasad say about Rinku Singh's exclusion?

During an exclusive chat with Revsportz after India's 15-man squad was made official, MSK Prasad had quite a lot of things to say about Rinku Singh's exclusion. Prasad did not only shed light on Rinku but he also highlighted the omissions of senior India batter KL Rahul and ODI opener Shubman Gill.

Prasad feels that Rinku Singh, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill were all extremely close to getting selected. However, regardless of their non-selection, the former India cricketer feels that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has done a great job.

MSK Prasad hailed Agarkar as well as Rohit Sharma for having enough clarity on their minds as to what exactly will work in the conditions in the USA and West Indies. Prasad observed that the surfaces in the Caribbean will be slow and thus opting for an extra spinner was a wise decision and that came at the cost of Rinku Singh not finding himself in the main squad.

The 49-year-old then claimed that he sees no one better than Rinku Singh at the moment, in terms of a player who can play the finisher's role. He further admitted that Rinku got a bit unlucky and that his non-inclusion is hard to digest and a tough pill to swallow.

"I feel all three Rinku, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill were very close to getting selected. The selectors did a good job. They were very clear that in the Caribbean and the USA, the wickets will assist the spinners during the latter part of the summer. That is the reason Rinku had to miss out. If you look at the players who fit in the role as finishers, I think there is no one better than Rinku now in India." - MSK Prasad said via Revsportz.

What did the Agarkar and Rohit say on Rinku?

During a press conference last evening in Mumbai, India captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar spoke in depth about Rinku's omission. Agarkar stated that the power hitter had not done anything wrong in their eyes and that the decision was solely taken concerning the team's combination.

Agarkar also confirmed that the selection committee also wanted to give Rohit Sharma an extra spin bowling option. That's why Delhi Capitals all-rounder Axar Patel was picked along with Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav.

Rinku's reaction

Rinku Singh's father during a chat with a media outlet revealed that the left-hand batter was a bit upset that he could not break into the 15-man squad. Rinku's father also disclosed that they had sweets and crackers ready for his selection but despite his absence from the main line-up, the family is quite happy.
