T20 World Cup 2024: Not Hardik Pandya! Eoin Morgan backs this India all-rounder to set the World Cup alight

Former England cricketer Eoin Morgan spoke about India’s chances to win the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube will have to play a massive role and he backed him to set the tournament alight. 

Indian players will be heading into the T20 World Cup 2024 on the back of decent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Almost every player of the squad had his moments in the tournament and would be confident entering into the league. 

The T20 World Cup 2024 will be another opportunity for the Indian team to end their ICC title drought. They have been desperate for the title since winning the 2013 Champions trophy. They have had massive heartbreaks with the last coming in ICC World Cup 2023.

India had a sensational outing in the ICC World Cup 2023 and with the way they played, it looked like they would win the tournament. This was because India stayed unbeaten till the final as they won 10 games on the trot but lost in the final against Australia in front of a full-packed Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.

However, in the T20 World Cup 2024, they would want to turn things around and win the title. Skipper Rohit Sharma would want to add a big feather to his cap and would be hoping to give a massive farewell to Rahul Dravid, whose contract as head coach will end after the World Cup. 

Eoin Morgan believes that India can win the T20 World Cup in 2024. According to him, they got hurt a lot after losing World Cups and they would be eager to win the tournament. Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained: 

"I think they (India) can (win), because they have go to a stage now where Adelaide would hurt, recently losing the (ODI) World Cup at home to Australia in front of 1,25,000 Indian fans.”

Based on his terrific performances in the IPL 2024, Shivam Dube was named in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The lanky all-rounder destroyed the spinners in the tournament and amassed 396 runs at 162.30.

With conditions favoring spin in the USA and the Caribbean, Shivam Dube no doubt would be crucial for Team India. Eoin Morgan believes that power hitting will be a point of difference for the team and as per him, Dube should play. He added: 

"The spinner will come into the game, the level of batsmanship will come into the game if the wickets slow down like we think. But also that excellence in power hitting is the point of difference for me. Shivam Dube has to play, I think he'll set this World Cup alight.”

India will be playing their warmup game on 1st June against Bangladesh. They will open their campaign against Ireland on 5th June in the T20 World Cup 2024.
