Indian Men's team head coach Rahul Dravid is unlikely to re-apply for the role once his tenure comes to an end later this summer after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The showpiece event which kicks off this June, will be the last time that we will be seeing Rahul Dravid in the head coaching role.

His contract had originally expired on November 2023 after the ICC Cricket World Cup finale in Ahmedabad where India had lost to Australia. But the BCCI had extended Dravid's stay by another 7 months until the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

Jay Shah admits that Rahul Dravid can re-apply if he wants

Yesterday it was revealed that BCCI's honorable secretary Jay Shah will be putting out advertisements for the head coaching role in the upcoming days.

During that announcement, Shah had admitted that Rahul Dravid, who will be heading over to New York with the Indian team in the next weeks, has the option to throw his hat once again.

Given the kind of success the Indian team experienced under his head coaching, the BCCI is not reluctant to have Rahul Dravid on another long-term deal. The team's style of play as well as mindset went through a drastic change under Dravid and his coaching entourage and the board wants him to continue doing the same kind of work.

However, the entire decision lies upon Rahul Dravid as to whether he wants to extend his stay for another 3 years or not. During the announcement, Jay Shah also revealed that the next coach, whoever it be, will be hired for 3 years.

That means the next head coach will serve as the head coach until the 2027 50-over World Cup in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Rahul Dravid's tenure, too, extended to almost 3 years. His appointment was made in November 2021 and his contract ran until November 2023.

During that time frame, the Indian team maintained its dominance in the home and bilateral series' but couldn't land a single ICC silverware, which is considered the basis of a coach's success.

Under Rahul Dravid, the Men in Blue were knocked out of the 2022 T20 WC semis by England and lost the World Test Championship 2023 final to Australia. And of course, the 50-over WC on home soil last year was also squandered by the Rohit Sharma-led side.

If the former India captain is to end his coaching tenure on a high note, then the T20 World Cup in June will be his last chance. Many consider him a failed coach due to India's lack of success in ICC events while others feel that Dravid has done a decent job.

But regardless of all that, sources are claiming that Rahul Dravid's time as India's head coach is certain to get over this summer.

Rahul Dravid and Co. to fly the USA by the end of May

Meanwhile, for his last assignment with the Indian team, Rahul Dravid will be flying over to the USA by the ending days of this month. He will be joined by those selected players whose teams will not qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. The 2007 champions will begin their campaign on June 5th against Ireland.
