Former England cricketer Graeme Swann picked his Indian wicketkeeper for the T20 World Cup 2024. He backed Rishabh Pant to take the don the gloves in the tournament over Sanju Samson as he believes he bats with a smile on his face and can have a positive impact.
India team will be having a lot of headaches going into the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in terms of selection for the tournament. They have quite a few big names in the team and all are in good form which makes it even more tough for the team management to select the XI for the tournament.
One of the biggest problems for them going into the tournament will be selecting the wicketkeeper for the team. India has two choices in Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson, who looked in magnificent touch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and racked up a huge amount of runs for the team.
Rishabh Pant, who made his return to cricket after the accident and captained Delhi Capitals, had a great season with the bat as well as the gloves. He scored 446 runs, at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 155.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson, who is captaining Rajasthan Royals, scored 521 runs at an average of 52.1 and a strike rate of 155. He still has games left in the tournament and would be keen to add more to his tally and help his team win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Graeme Swann admitted the kind of impact Sanju Samson has made in the league but he stated that he would go with Rishabh Pant as the keeper in the team. While speaking about the same to Mykhel, he explained:
"Pant for me, I would pick Rishabh Pant every time. I love Rishabh Pant, I love the way he plays, there's always a big smile on his face and even though Sanju (Samson) is a Rajasthan boy, I would still pick Pant (as the first-choice wicketkeeper for India) without any doubt."
If they play well in the (Caribbean) conditions and pick the right team, there's no reason they can go the distance - Graeme Swann on England
Graeme Swann further talked about the chances of England in the T20 World Cup 2024. He stated that they have a good team and if they play well they can win the team.
"England are a superb team. If they play well in the (Caribbean) conditions and pick the right team, there's no reason they can go the distance. But I think every nation when they look at the team they've picked up. They'll be like 'Hang on, we have the chance to win'.
"Very few teams have weak links and such is the prevalence of T20 competitions around the world these days, every team has players who have the experience (of handling big match pressure) and who are raring to go. So, I am looking forward to this T20 WC," he concluded.
