Kolkata Knight Riders star Varun Chakravarthy has revealed his choice for the four semifinalists of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament got underway on Sunday (June 2).
In the first game of the competition, co-hosts USA beat Canada by seven wickets as they chased down 195 runs inside 18 overs. In the second game of the competition, the other co-hosts West Indies registered a hard-fought 5-wicket win over Papua New Guinea. On Monday, Namibia beat Oman through a Super Over.
With the tournament just getting started, the fans and experts have been busy predicting the winners and semifinalists. And Varun Chakravarthy has revealed his predictions as well. In a video posted by Kolkata Knight Riders, the star spinner picked reigning champions England, Australia, South Africa and India as the four semifinalists while snubbing the likes of West Indies, New Zealand and Pakistan.
"England for sure because of the batting they have. And Salty is there, I would like to give him some good luck. Australia, South Africa and India," said Varun Chakravarthy.
A season to remember for Varun Chakravarthy:
Varun Chakravarthy recently enjoyed a stellar season in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Tamil Nadu ace starred with the ball as KKR went on to win their third title and first since 2014. He finished the competition as the second highest wicket-taker.
Varun Chakravarthy did not start the competition on a good note. In the first two games, he managed to pick up only 1 wicket while giving away as many as 75 runs in 6 overs. However, there was no looking back once he found his rhythm. In the end, he finished the tournament with 21 wickets in 14 innings. Only Harshal Patel picked up more wickets than him in IPL 2024.
The 32-year old will be hoping that his fine show in IPL 2024 revives his international career as well. He has not played for Team India since 2021. So far, he has played only 6 T20Is and picked up only 2 wickets.
