T20 World Cup 2024: Yuzvendra Chahal returns, Rinku Singh dropped as BCCI announces India squad for T20 World Cup 2024

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (30th April) announced the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is all set to be played in June this year in the United States of America (USA) and the Caribbean. 

Rohit Sharma will be captaining the India team in the T20 World Cup 2024 whereas Hardik Pandya has been appointed as his deputy for the tournament. Yuzvendra Chahal has made a return to the team after having an impressive IPL 2024. While Rinku Singh has been dropped and will be part of the reserves. 

Rinku Singh has been one of the most consistent batters for India in the T20Is since the last one year. The batter has hardly put a foot wrong in his career but in his place, BCCI proffered Shivam Dube, who has been in red hot form in the ongoing IPL 2024. 

Apart from Rinku Singh, KL Rahul has been dropped from the team. The keeper-batter wasn't part of the setup after the T20 World Cup 2022. However, his recent form in the IPL impressed many and there were even openers that he might make it into the team for the tournament. 

Rishabh Pant will be making his return in the Indian colours for the first time since December 2022. He has been picked as a keeper-batter in the team along with Sanju Samson as second keeper. The Rajasthan Royals skipper has been nothing short of exceptional in the ongoing Indian Premier League with the bat. 

Apart from Hardik and Shivam, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are the two all-rounders in the team. They will also be handling the spin bowling duties along with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, who are two leg-spinners. Ravi Bishnoi has also failed to cut into the team. 

India has picked just three pacers in the team in Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj. The trio will be extremely crucial for the team in the tournament as a lot of would-be reliant on them in the T20 World Cup 2024. 

Apart from the main squad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has also also named four reserves in the team. Shubman Gill, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan along with Rinku Singh will be travelling with the team as standby.

India is placed in Group A of the tournament alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts USA. They will begin their campaign on 5 June against Ireland.
