The relationship between the experienced spinner Tabraiz Shamsi and Cricket South Africa (CSA) seems to be worsening, as the latest update related to the cricketer has arrived. Instead of contributing to the South Africa cricket team, he is now with the West Indies cricket team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
It is reported that Tabraiz Shamsi is in the West Indies coaching staff for the T20 International series against South Africa. Ahead of the T20 World Cup, both of these nations are now involved in a bilateral series, which will help them to prepare for the elite tournament ahead.

Legal issue between Tabraiz Shamsi and Cricket South Africa
Tabraiz Shamsi opted out of his Cricket South Africa (CSA) central contract in October 2024 to become a freelance cricketer, seeking flexibility to play in global T20 leagues while remaining available for national selection. Later, due to an issue related to a No Obligation Certificate (NOC), the cricketer dragged the South African cricket governing body to the high court.
Under the high court order, Shamsi, who has no central contract from his nation's cricket body, is open to representing the South Africa cricket team. Since 2024, he has been working mainly as a freelance cricketer. After turning down the central control two years back, he played for multiple franchise leagues across the globe.
3-match T20I series between West Indies and South Africa
South Africa and the West Indies are now engaging in a three-match T20I series. In the first match of the tournament, South Africa got a win over the West Indies at the Boland Park in Paarl, chasing a target of 174 runs. South Africa claimed the target in only 17.5 overs and won the match by 9 wickets, a big win for them ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, as the West Indies is considered a potential dark horse of the contest.
In this match, George Linde, Corbin Bosch, and Keshav Maharaj bowled brilliantly for the South Africa cricket team, while the West Indies bowlers could get only one scalp. The only scalp they claimed was the wicket of Lhuan-dre Pretorius (44). West Indies skipper and part-time spinner Roston Chase got the only wicket for his team.
Tabraiz Shamsi to offer guidance to the West Indies
In the following two matches, the former T20 World Cup winner will have to improve his bowling. Tabraiz Shamsi can be useful for them in preparing for his experiences in playing various T20 leagues.
Last year, Shamsi withdrew himself from the SA20 to play in the ILT20, a more lucrative option for him. He was playing for MI Cape Town in SA20. Later, when he went to play in the ILT20, the duration of the NOC issued by the board barred him from playing in the remaining season of the ILT20.
After which, the cricketer sought help from the Johannesburg High Court to extend the duration of the no-objection certificate. The court issued an order in support of the cricketer. Since then, Shamsi has been performing as a freelance cricketer.
