Rohit Sharma, on Friday (March 8), scored a brilliant century to put India in the driver’s seat in the ongoing fifth Test against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
Asked to bowl first, India bowled out England for just 218 runs with Kuldeep Yadav starring with the ball. The visitors were comfortably placed at 175 for 3 at one stage before suffering the horror collapse.
At one stage, they were reeling at 183 for 8 from 175 from 3 before Ben Foakes and Shoaib Bashir took the score past 200 runs. Kuldeep picked up five wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin picked up four wickets.
With the Indian bowlers doing such a splendid job, the onus was on the batters to compliment them and they have not disappointed so far. Captain Rohit Sharma is leading India’s charge with the bat. On the first day, he and Yashasvi Jaiswal shared a brilliant stand of 104 runs in less than 21 overs. Bashir broke the stand by dismissing Jaiswal for 57.
Rohit Sharma completes century:
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill then ensured that India ended the day without losing any more wickets. India were on 135 for 1 at the stumps with the captain unbeaten on 52. Both the batters began cautiously on day two before opening their arms.
They matched each other shot for shot to put India in a commanding position. Rohit Sharma was the first to complete his century. He reached his century in 154 balls with the help of 13 fours and 3 sixes. It is his second century in the series. The India captain had scored a century in the third Test of the five-match series as well.
The veteran batsman started the series on a poor note, registering scores of 24, 39, 14 and 13. However, he has looked in fine touch since the third Test where he scored 131 and 19. In the fourth Test, he scored 2 and 55 before scoring his latest century. As Rohit Sharma completed his century, the cricketing fraternity was quick to praise him for his knock.
