Rohit Sharma's team India have canceled their only scheduled practice session on the eve of their final Group A match against Canada in Florida.
The Indian team, after completing the New York leg of their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Group stage, have flown to Florida, Miami for their last match in the USA. They will be taking on the Canadians at the Central Broward Regional Park tomorrow from 8:00 PM (IST) onwards. After that, Rohit Sharma and co. will fly over to the West Indies for the remaining part of the tournament.
India aiming to break the trophy drought
The first-ever 20-team T20 World Cup has been a nail-biting affair and one that has captured the imagination of the fans. This T20 WC might not have been about scoring 200+ scores consistently but it has been a test for all the players in these tough conditions. With only a handful of group matches left to play, all the teams will aim to give their 100%.
While every team came to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with a motive to win the tournament, the event is specifically important for the Indian team. Rohit Sharma and co. are looking to win their first ICC tournament since the Champions Trophy triumph in 2013. Last year they squandered two golden opportunities to land an international silverware as they lost to Australia in the WTC and CWC finals.
Rohit Sharma and co. had a fairytale run-in to the final of the 50-over World Cup last year, winning 10 out of their 10 matches before the final. However, on the day of the finale, India's dream of lifting a 3rd World title was crushed by the Pat Cummins-led Aussie team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
7 months later, the optimism and hopes of the Indian team are still high to try and break the ICC trophy drought which has been in effect since 2013. India's initiation for the World Cup title has started pretty well as they have won 3 out of their first 3 group matches with one more still to play.
Rain to play its part in India Vs Canada
Ahead of their clash against Canada tomorrow, India have faced a major setback in their preparations due to the extreme weather conditions in Florida. The region of Lauderhill and the places around it are experiencing heavy rainfall and flood-like situation as a result.
Some parts of the City are, in fact, underwater with the forecast predicting that the weather will remain the same throughout this week. Continuous rain and thunderstorms are going to take place all this week and it will affect all the matches that are going to take place in the Florida stadium.
Other than India and Canada, Pakistan and Ireland are also going to play matches in the venue. The Indian team will not be affected if they don't play their final group game but the Pakistani team will be heavily affected by this. Their game against Ireland is a must-win match for them to reach the Super 8s.
