Cricket commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has pointed out the mistake that opening pair Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should not make against Australia.

The Indian team will be locking horns with bitter rivals Australia later today at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia for their final Super 8 clash. This will be the first time India will face the Aussies in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after facing each other in the last matches of two major ICC events in the 2024 calendar year.

Pat Cummins' Australian team had defeated Rohit Sharma's Men in Blue in the World Test Championship final as well as the ODI WC final in Ahmedabad. Although they are not facing each other in another ICC final the stakes are still pretty high.

India has a good chance of eliminating the Aussies just by winning today's match and their exit will be confirmed if Afghanistan beats Bangladesh tomorrow. If the 2007 Champions want to beat the 2021 Champions, then contributions will be required from every player and not just from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

This is going to be a decisive factor for the Indian team heading into this match and this point was also stressed by former batter Sanjay Manjrekar.

Sanjay Manjrekar doesn't want Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to take the pressure on themselves

While speaking to Star Sports recently, Sanjay Manjrekar asked Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to not take the entire pressure on themselves. Manjrekar highlighted how India were put in a tricky situation when Kohli and Rohit had taken the onus on their shoulders during the semi-final of the 2022 T20 WC against England.

Sanjay Manjrekar reminded the Indian team that over-dependency on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was a huge mistake and that they should not do it again.

"The last thing India want is a repeat of the semis of the last T20 WC when both Rohit and Virat took it upon themselves to be the ones to lead India’s fight against a strong England side, which backfired badly." - Manjrekar told Star Sports.

Manjrekar makes a bold claim that India have moved on from Virat and Rohit

Speaking ahead, Sanjay Manjrekar highlighted that Team India are no more reliant on the services of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. That it is no longer a case of 2 players but 11 players playing together to help the nation win but Virat and Rohit should still embrace this feeling.

The Indian team will get into action at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia from 8:00 PM (IST) onwards.

"Rohit and Virat are still obvious icons in this team and for its fans, but India, as we have seen in this WC, have moved on. It is now a team of 11, not just one or two. Come to the semis, when the challenge gets stiffer and India play with the realization that they will be knocked out of the tournament if they lose, Rohit and Virat must continue to embrace this attitude." - Sanjay Manjrekar concluded.
