The India National Cricket Team is all set to take on New Zealand in the final of the ICC World Test Championship in England from June 18-22. The squad for the WTC final has already been announced and the players have also begun their Indian quarantine before flying to the United Kingdom.
After the WTC final, the Indian contingent will stay in the UK and prepare for a five-match Test series that is scheduled to take place between the Men in Blue and the English side from August 04. Meanwhile, it was announced that a second-string team will fly to Sri Lanka in the month of July to play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs.

Team India To Play Additional Matches In Sri Lanka To Cover The Financial Loss Due To COVID-19
Now, it has been revealed that the Men in Blue were originally slated to play the 3-match T20I series in Sri Lanka. Because of the losses incurred by various cricket boards due to the stagnancy of cricketing action ever since the COVID-19 breakdown, both, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Sri Lanka Cricket Cricket (SLC), decided to add a 3-match ODI series in the tour.

“India agreed to double the number of matches in their upcoming tour and this means we will get more revenue from television rights,” Silva, a top SLC official, told reporters. It has been informed that Sri Lanka Cricket will also request other visiting cricket nations to play additional games on the tour to cover the financial losses.
A Second String Squad To Be Announced Soon
As the Men in Blue prepare to take on New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final, a second-string squad will soon be announced which will travel to Sri Lanka. Notably, Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya have emerged as the frontrunners to lead the side in the Sri Lanka island.

On Thursday, it was confirmed by a top BCCI official that Rahul Dravid will be the coach of the side that will travel to Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the BCCI is also putting in hard yards to resume IPL 2021 and has reportedly asked the England Cricket Board to rejig the Test series between India and England so as to accommodate IPL 2021.
