South Africa Test captain Temba Bavuma is poised to be the standout figure at the upcoming Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards. Bavuma is expected to receive several top accolades for his performances over the past year at the Cricket SA Awards evening, set to be held at Emperors Palace on Thursday.

Temba Bavuma played a pivotal role in ending South Africa’s 27-year wait for an ICC trophy. He led the Proteas to victory in the World Test Championship (WTC 2025 final) against Australia at Lord’s Cricket Ground in June. South Africa clinched the prestigious title with a five-wicket triumph.

Bavuma scored a crucial half-century despite battling a hamstring injury. The 35-year-old skipper inspired his team to a memorable win, cementing his legacy in South African cricket.

Temba Bavuma to Win the Biggest Cricket Award

Temba Bavuma is expected to dominate the 2024-25 Cricket South Africa Awards, with multiple accolades likely coming his way for an exceptional season as both captain and player. Although South Africa’s World Test Championship triumph falls outside the official judging period (May 1, 2024 - April 30, 2025), Bavuma's consistent performances still make him a strong contender.

He is in the running for SA Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year, and Fan’s Player of the Year.

This could mark Bavuma’s first time receiving South African cricket’s highest individual honour, placing him alongside legends such as Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Makhaya Ntini, and Kagiso Rabada.

Temba Bavuma Joins Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj in Race for Prestigious CSA Awards

Temba Bavuma played a crucial role in South Africa’s journey to the World Test Championship Final, amassing 609 runs at an impressive average of 60.90, including two centuries. He also led the Proteas to series victories over the West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

Kagiso Rabada is also among the top contenders for both SA Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year. Rabada had an equally impactful season with the ball, becoming the fifth South African to take 300 Test wickets. Notably, his strike rate of 39.2 is the best among all bowlers in that elite group.

Keshav Maharaj and Ryan Rickelton have also earned nominations in both major categories following strong campaigns with the ball and bat, respectively.
