Senior Indian pacer Ishant Sharma might find it hard to get back into the Test side as the BCCI is looking to begin the transition phase in Indian cricket which has already seen Wriddhiman Saha reject Ranji Trophy as he has no place in the Indian side anymore.

KS Bharat is being groomed as the backup keeper to Rishabh Pant at the moment. With age not on his side, Saha has decided to miss out on Ranji Trophy. On similar lines, Ishant is also likely to be left out as the Delhi team has not received any confirmation of participation from the lanky pacer.

They have been told that the Indian team management is looking to groom the next line of players. Their chances of playing Tests would drop drastically,” a source was quoted as saying to TOI.

Further revelations were made claiming that Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have all but lost their spot in the team. The duo has returned to Ranji in order to find their form.

Things don’t look flowery for Rahane and Pujara too. They are playing Ranji Trophy which is a good sign. They are walking a tight rope though.”

This is a good chance to give youngsters a longer run. However, the house is still divided on Pujara and Rahane. With Covid playing a big role, the dearth backup middle order batters for the next line is going to be tough,” the source added.

There are plenty of potential options to replace Ishant, with Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, and Navdeep Saini being the top picks.
