India batter Suryakumar Yadav has penned a heartfelt note for his captain Rohit Sharma after India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 title with a thrilling win over South Africa in the final.

Rohit Sharma was the chief architect in India's title win. The Indian captain scored 257 runs in eight matches at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.70. He finished as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament, just behind Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Along with Rohit's batting, his captaincy was impressive as well. His bowling changes, his use of Jasprit Bumrah at various stages of the game, and the way he kept his composure during pressure situations were also impressive parts.

He started the tournament with a wonderful half-century against Ireland but got low scores in the next matches in the group stage. But the Indian captain raised his game in the important Super 8 game against Australia as he scored a brilliant 92 off 41 balls. In the semi-finals, he continued his good form with an impressive 57 off 39 balls on a slow pitch.

Being the captain of the team, Rohit took on the responsibility of providing India with aggressive starts by taking risks at the top despite the pitches not being easy for the batters.

Suryakumar Yadav pays tribute to Rohit Sharma

After the title win, Suryakumar Yadav paid a special tribute to Rohit Sharma. He thanked Rohit for showing the way to the team and leading from the front.

"Captain Ro. Thank you for showing us how it’s done! The Absolute Best," Suryakumar Yadav posted on Instagram.

Suryakumar Yadav himself had a good tournament overall. He scored 199 runs in eight matches at an average of 28.41 and a strike rate of 135.37. He played crucial innings against the USA, Afghanistan, and Australia, and in the big semi-final against England. He scored two half-centuries in the tournament.

In the semi-final against England, when India were in trouble at 40-2, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav stitched together a partnership of 73 off 50 balls to help India post a winning total of 171-7.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja retire from T20Is

After winning the trophy, both the stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20I cricket. Rohit Sharma finished as the highest run-scorer in T20Is while Virat Kohli finished as the second-highest run-scorer. A title win in this format was a perfect farewell for these two modern-day greats.

A day later, another senior player Ravindra Jadeja also announced his retirement from T20I cricket. While Jadeja didn't particularly have a great T20I record, he has been a regular member of India's T20I squads over the years. Being an exceptional fielder, he had been a great asset to the team.

India's next international assignment will be the tour of Zimbabwe which will start from July 6. Shubman Gill will lead a young Indian side, which has a plethora of IPL stars.
